Spruzzo is Listening

I’ve seen a few articles lately on Panpsychism: the idea that literally everything is conscious. It is hard to image how a rock or an electron is conscious, but on the plus side the idea explains how people are conscious without resorting to anything ‘special’ about people. (I think it is likely that computers will become conscious. We are conscious meat machines, why not a machine built a different way? If you think consciousness is restricted to animals only, you are considered to be a meat-bigot 😉 If you think computers will never have emotions think again: we can simulate releasing various emotion-generating chemicals in a computer easily.)

I mention this because the day before Spruzzo’s engine wouldn’t start, I said out loud how unhappy I was with how much diesel we were burning. This was an unjust comment.

Clearly it was my fault that we were burning so much diesel. I am deciding when to run the engine. The engine runs perfectly (I cannot see even a trace of smoke). Other than a dirty bottom, which is also my fault, the boat moves perfectly under power. So…..the next day Spruzzo decided it wouldn’t burn any more diesel for me.

I know you are thinking this is coincidence, and it may well be.

Other than coincidence, it is also possible that this is caused because our minds actually create reality in some way. I’ve often thought it odd that Star Trek invents a Warp Drive (could have been earlier but it was still fictional) and then 30 years later we have the Alcubierre Drive which seems exactly like how a warp drive would work.

Or we live in a simulation, and someone noticed my bad behaviour and decided I should pay.

You can believe what you will but I will never say anything bad about Spruzzo again. I won’t risk hurting her feelings and paying the consequences!
