Agoi Apostoli Bay in Evia was a very nice spot. We had the bay to ourselves most of the time (probably because only idiots would come here from the south ), and we had our very own sea-turtle in the bay! Even though there was supposedly outside wind we felt almost none of it in the bay….the mainland of Greece was giving us great protection….except that it was 30+ degrees and we could have used a bit of wind. Fortunately, we can jump into cooler crystal clear water whenever we feel too hot.
It was a very busy tourist spot entirely full of Greek tourists. It was restful after our adventure arriving. I normally like quieter places but I didn’t mind this one. There were tons of fish in the bay. It looks to me like the number of fish is increasing as we go north…..which is a bit odd. There seems to be more seagrass as well. Also a tiny bit of garbage on the bottom from all the people, but it wasn’t excessive.

Of course eventually we decided to move on. The trip to Skopelos was (thank goodness) the exact opposite of our trip to Evia: literally smooth sailing….except we motored the entire way. We wanted a calm day to leave, so we picked a day with very light winds from the north (waiting for winds from the south we could be waiting forever). The sea was like glass when we left. It was actually a bit scary to jump in the water because you would look down and just see the bottom perfectly clearly and waaaayyy below you! We motored the entire way. It took us 8 hours. We hardly saw any other boats. There were barely any waves at all….so we both just chilled on the boat while it made its way to our destination.
The one slightly exciting thing was that we went through a part of an artillery testing area. I checked online, and part of it was going to be active in a few days….but we were good on the day we went through. I would hope they would have military boats around to keep everyone out when it is in use!
You can see in the main picture that we are now well-north of Athens and just a bit south of Volos.
Skopelos is the famous ‘Mama-Mia’ island. We are in a very protected bay. We are anchored a bit deep at 8m and again it is busier than I like but we will stay here for a few days at least. The change in the terrain in the islands is hard to believe unless you’ve seen it. Skopelos is full of trees…..a few hundred km south of here you only see scrub on rocks.

The beach scenes were shot a few km north of here but we have seen tourist boats full of people drive by a few times. After a few days of this we will likely head to Alonnisos which is right beside a giant marine park and we might see seals!
