Jeff (a software guy) and Victoria (a Greek and Canadian lawyer) met in Toronto and decided that they wanted to sail around the world together, starting with a few years in the Mediterranean.
Spruzzo, an Amel Super Maramu 2000 hull #379 was purchased from a wonderful Italian gentleman in Sicily in October 2020. ‘Spruzzo’ means ‘Spray’ in Italian. Spray was the name of Joshua Slocum’s boat that he used to do the first solo circumnavigation. This is a cool name so we kept it. It also prevented Jeff from naming the boat something nautical with implications that would offend the easily offended 😉
Amel’s are famous boats for a number of reasons. They are very safe, easy for a couple to sail and capable of crossing oceans. You can read more here.
Victoria has a Captain’s licence from Greece but had never owned a sailboat. Jeff had owned a Beneteau 35 for 5 years at Mimico Cruising Club but had never sailed outside Lake Ontario or even to a different marina. This is a new experience for both of us.
We are keeping this blog as a diary/record of our experiences and as a way for us to keep up to date with friends and family and anyone else interested in our experiences.
We will write about the places we visit and I will probably add some notes about the boat maintenance that I do because almost everything maintenance related is new to me. I have found lots of help in other blogs and hopefully this will help someone else.
